Fossilized egg clutches like this one can offer clues about the prehistoric past.  Dinosaurs, like all reptiles, laid eggs.  The study of these rare objects has shed light on dinosaurs’ reproductive behaviors.  Such clutches can also lead to a greater understanding of how long-extinct dinosaurs relate to modern animals such as birds.
