Kunichika

Kunichika, Klyochika, Toshitochi, et al. [An Album of Ukiyo-e Prints.] 1870s - 1880s.

Ukiyo-e, which translates as “pictures of the floating or sorrowful world,” is a genre of Japanese woodblock printing often used to illustrate historical scenes.  This collection features the work of a number of artists and offers a window into 19 th-century Japan, including pictures of historic battles, contemporary domestic scenes, and a depiction of a sumo wrestling match.
